Strange trip this. Problems not getting into Naples game added a general "edge" to the first day, pick-pocket alert on buses and the darker back streets of naples revealed some lovely people. Late night shopping trip in the rain was great tho. Herculaneum was an absolute revelation but we were ripped off by a local coffee shop. Bought some superb books. Stayed at a swanky Hotel (not the norm I can assure you, backpackers) and drank loads of beer whilst watching footy on the TV when we weren't out galavanting and the tv lounge also had an upright piano whose keys i broke whilst trying to play a Billy Joel song after several bottles of Pironni! Hey, thats a bit rock'n'roll ain't it ?????? Oh Yeah, an Extra-curricular trip, by yours truly, to visit friends in Frosinone was special as was trip to Benevento which we all rather enjoyed especially as it was a last minute addition that Tony pointed us in the direction of. Nice one Tony.
See below for... Herculaneum
Not many Naples pix mainly down to a lost SD card and the fact I took a Saturday off to Train up to Frosinone(again ! ! ! ! ! ) to visit my Godson and his family , ex-OS's Mario and Maria Pantanella.( thanks for a great day !) Coming soon though lots of pics from Herculaneum (Similarly affected as Pompei and incredibly excavated, breathtaking)
Our trip out from Naples to see Benevento play. A one hour train ride on the coldest day and we loved the place. Friendly and lively on a Sunday and a lovely lunch in a family run restaurant full of locals in what looked like a small terraced hose in a back street. Brill. See spreadsheet for result.
Herculaneum. I've uploaded all my photos of the excavations as they show show awesome effort. The depth that has been cleared to and the scenes that have been revealed are incredible. The whole area was covered with ash/soil. Amazing. They have an exhaustive bookstore on site with many volcano related jems books in general ( my credit card nearly melted).
I'll leave these up for a month or so then edit them down. OK......Actually i've left them full stop. (ok..Ed.)
