After going to see Eastleigh lose 2-1 at Winchester on a freezing cold Tuesday night (in the Senior Cup which they won a few years back) at the Denplan Stadium it was a relief that it was only torrential rain on the menu for last nights game at St Mary's as stuttering Southampton hosted surprise package Watford. OK, I was wearing three coats ! Well, it turned out to be a straightforward victory, 2-0, and Saint's could have had more. It took me 25 mins to walk back to the car instead of 10 as hip/knees/legs failed miserably. Ouch !
It was a rare midweek schedule for the Premier League as all teams played over two nights to compensate for the weekend's FA Cup games.
Tuesday saw Aston Villa get their first win for 3 1/2 months against Palace, West Ham win at Bournemouth ( who had led early on) and Newcastle grab a late draw against Utd who were 2-0 ahead and then 3-2 in front in a thrilling match that ended 3-3. Phew!
Last night there were also wins for Stoke, Sunderland and Leicester. Chelsea held to 2-2 draw by late West Brom equaliser. City held to goalless draw by Everton and Arsenal could not repel a late onslaught from Liverpool and succumb to a last minute equaliser in the 3-3 draw.
