At the bottom, a poor Newcastle United disappointed Rafa Benitez with an ineffective performance at a Southampton side still harbouring European qualification hopes (Long, Pelle and Wanyama scoring). Looking like The Geordies, Villa and either Sunderland or Norwich to be relegated. Saints have a challenging run in and may need to rely on Man u winning the FA Cup to free up a Europa League place.
Man City came back from a goal down against a stubborn West Brom ahead of the second leg of the CL quarter final against PSG - City beat PSG on the night and on aggregate to advance to the semi-final thanks to De Bruyne's strike.
Locally, Steve Claridge's Salisbury City are a point away from promotion from the Wessex League as they strive to return to their former glories in the National League. Eastleigh's draw away to bogey side Grimsby Town set them up for the run in to secure a play-off spot in the National League. This was followed up with a 3-1 home win over another former League club Barrow; a home game against rivals Tranmere and a game in hand gives The Spitfires an advantage - its in their hands!
Wilkie Tours next hosts, Stuttgart lost at home to Bayern Munich 1-3 in front of a capacity 60,000 Mercedes-Benz Arena. We're looking forward to our visit in Stutgart's last home game against European qualification hopefuls Mainz.
Barca slipped up at Real Sociedad for the fourth consecutive visit, as the chasing Madrid sides continue the chase. Barca's recent poor form continued into the return leg at Atletico Madrid, when 2 goals from Griezmann eliminated the reigning champions and CL favourites. Real Madrid overcame a 2 goal deficit from the first leg in Germany with a Ronaldo hat-trick against Wolfsburg.
So the CL semi-finalists are Man City, Bayern and the two Madrid teams (the draw takes place on Friday).
In Italy, Sicilian side Palermo are in trouble at the bottom after a 0-3 home defeat to Lazio. It looks like 3 from 4 with 6 games to go, Palermo, Carpi, Frosinone & Verona.
