Weekend Update - Tony B

What an amazing game at St. Marys on Sunday!  Liverpool 2-0 up and creating enough chances to have the game sewn up by half-time lost a PL game from that position for the first time.  Saints introduced Wanyama and Mane for the second-half and the game was transformed.  Big Vic had missed 5 games through suspension and the out of form Sadio had been warming the bench recently.  Two great strikes from Mane and Pelle levelled the score and with the noise in the stadium raising the roof, Mane arrowed in the winner prompting Ronald Koeman to race down the touchline, arms raised to join in the celebrations. Phew!

Plenty for Klopp to think about in the race for European places and with the Europa League tie against his former club Borussia Dortmund coming up.

Leicester maintained their lead at the top of the table with a win at (plummeting) Palace while the two derbies at Newcastle and Manchester confirmed that both Newcastle and Sunderland remain in dire straits, following Norwich's win at West Brom and Manchester City (only?) have the Champions League and PSG to focus on.

Wilkie Tours local non-league side Eastleigh were not in action as their scheduled opponents, Grimsby Town were beating Rymans Premier League side Bognor Regis Town in the FA Trophy semi-final to reach a Wembley final.  Also on the non-league scene it was heartening to note the re-emergence of Hereford (FC not United) as they qualified for the FA Vase final at Wembley after beating Steve Claridge's Salisbury City over two legs.

In Europe, Dortmund are chasing Bayern with the gap at the top at 5 points.  Wilkie Tours next hosts Stuttgart lost at home to Bayer Leverkusen (0-2) as they look down nervously on the relegation places.

Napoli kept the pressure on Juventus (3 point gap) with a home win over Genoa (Higuan again on the score-sheet) while Juve recovered from their CL disappointment with an emphatic triumph in the Turin derby (4-1).

At the bottom of Serie A, with Hella Verona stranded 9 points from safety Carpi and (Al's favourites) Frosinone are catching up with Palermo .  Kevin Lasagna (hmmm lasagne|) scored the winner at Verona with a 'delicious' free-kick.

In Spain, Real Madrid have narrowed the gap on their city rivals Atletico  to 1 point after Atletico's surprise defeat at struggling Gijon, but Barcelona remain well clear of both.  Gary Neville is under increasing pressure after Valencia lost at home to Celta Vigo, choosing to delay joining up with the England staff for the friendlies later this week.  Gareth Bale, not fit to join up with Wales squad became the highest British goal-scorer in La Liga when he scored against Sevilla on Sunday his 43rd goal in Spanish football.

Hi i'm Alan S. Ex-Ordnance Survey UK, ex-BAe Systems KSA, ex-Twinings UK. Currently at Coopervision UK. Actually my continuing illnesses did for me and my contract was ended, so now have retired ( sort of). Been Wilkie Touring since 2005. I Love "live" music and also "writing and playing" my own songs. Enjoy throwing parties. Oh Yeah, Going to Cinema and watching DVD's on PROJECTOR based "Home  Cinema" are essentials. Golf and Jazz and Jogging round things off. Would have been on more Tours but for recurring illness's ( Cellulitus and last 2 1/2 years Hip).

Travelling! Did I mention travelling? Oh, and photography too. I belong to the school of " take a 100 pix and one is bound to be good ( ask exasperated family and friends!).
