Manchester United continued their winning start to the season with another clean sheet in a 2-0 home win over Leicester City, while Arsenal were thrashed 4-0 at Anfield despite the presence of a rather disinterested Alexis Sanchez. Chelsea continued their recovery from a shock opening defeat to Burnley by comfortably beating big spending Everton at The Bridge.
Burnley followed up their victory at Chelsea with a well earned draw at Spurs' new Wembley home (played 2, drawn 1, lost 1) with new signing from Leeds,New Zealander Chris Wood netting a late equaliser.
Huddersfield remain unbeaten with a goal-less home draw with Saints, who themselves are unbeaten in their opening three PL games. Man City leave it late to win 2-1 at Boscombe, with Raheem Sterling scoring in added time then getting sent off after an over exuberant celebration amongst the City fans on the touchline.
Boscombe, along with Frank De Boer's Crystal Palace and Slaven Bilic's Hammers have zero points after three PL games.
Cardiff City under the helm of experienced campaigner Neil Warnock top the Championship after five straight wins. The latest being a 2-1 home win over one of his many former clubs, QPR.
Local non league side Eastleigh draw both their games over the Bank Holiday weekend, 1-1 at Leyton Orient followed by a goal-less home game against Hampshire rivals, Aldershot Town. The Spitfires have made a steady, if not a spectacular start to their National League season.
In Europe, Real Madrid sans Christian Renaldo recover from a goal down to draw 2-2 with Valencia, while Barca (Messi) win their second round game at Alaves 2-0 to join Real Sociedad at the top of La Liga, former Saint Juanmi scoring in a 3-0 win over misfiring Villareal. The usual suspects are at/near the top of the table in Germany and in Italy, with Bayern's Robert Lewandowski and Juve's Paulo Dybala scoring for fun.
This week I will be mainly following the transfer speculation up until the window closes on Thursday. Will Sanchez join Man City, will Saints keep Van Dijk (as they have steadfastly stated they will!), will Coutinho leave Liverpool for Barca (how sweet that would be for Saints fans!), what is Diego Costa's future at Chelsea? Does bubble-gum lose its' flavour on the bed-post overnight? All this and more will be resolved come first thing Friday morning............or will it?????
