The first two PL games yielding 13 goals with Arsenal & Liverpool again showing their defensive frailties despite neither losing the game, reigning champions Chelsea losing at home to Burnley & having two players dismissed; PL newbies Huddersfield winning at Palace 3-0.
Then we have Lukaku getting off the mark for United with two goals against West Ham, Saints failing to score at home for the seventh consecutive game at St Marys (an unwelcome club record), JonJo Shelvey having another on field misdemeanour resulting in his sending off after Dele Alli got under his skin (or was it his foot?).
Local National League side, Eastleigh have had a steady start to the season drawing home & away and beating much fancied Sutton United 1-0 at The Silverlake Stadium.
Real Madrid, having beaten United (2-1) in the Champions League winners v Europa League winners challenge, emphatically defeated Barca over two legs (5-1) in the Spanish season curtain raiser, however this has been somewhat overshadowed by Ronaldo's harsh sending off after a second yellow for diving and subsequent lengthy ban for 'pushing' the referee.
Bayern Munich defeated Borussia Dortmond on penalties in the German Super Cup and are also in dispute with Frenchman Dembele who is a target, along with Coutinho, for Barca who now have a bit of cash to spend.
This weekend sees Spurs play their first PL league home game at Wembley Stadium against rivals Chelsea. West Ham are away again (this time at St Marys) as the London Stadium has been used for the World Athletics Championship.
Exciting, is it not????
