Day 1 at the WT hotel in Munich.
Early flight from Gatwick to arrive in rainy Bavaria, 40 minute train ride later dumped bags off at the Carat Hotel just outside the old town boundary. After the obligatory coffee and cake stop we took a tram to the first day opening of the Dokumentationazentrum built on the site of the Nazi Brown House. Wilkie and I were interviewed and had our photo taken by the press.
Back into the centre for lunch in a beer hall, which was heaving due to the public holiday. Still raining as we took in the views from the Rathaus tower. Live bands playing on a stage in the square outside. Back to the hotel for a short siesta, then the train to the Grunwalder Stadium, where Bayern used to play before moving to the Olympic Stadium, for the evening game. Still raining. Tickets secured in a large covered stand for 10 Euros. Beer stop nearby - I've been mainly drinking dark beer, then back to watch Bayern II v Bayreuth. Not a bad game with Bayern taking a first half lead only to be pegged back by a second half penalty. After fending off strong pressure from the visitors the home side ran out 5-1 winners. Went to an Italian restaurant by the stadium after the game. Still raining. Clive suddenly decided to take a close look at the tramlines as we crossed overs! After a couple of phantom tram rides it was back to the hotel for some kip (no sleep on a WT?). Off to Augsburg by train early in the morning to spend the day there and watch the Bundesliga game in the afternoon.
We're missing you chaps.
