Met fellow Wilkie Tourer Baz plus a a WT friend Marius (who helped the crew in Leverkussen find the ground an is now an honorary member) for a drink post match. Marius flew over from Germany especially for this game. Nice one. They were hitting Eastleigh's drinking Den's later. Hope they stayed out of jail ! ! !
Watched Chelsea's win against gallant Scunthorpe and now Spurs v Leicester and it's 2-1 to Leicester but Kane just equalised with minutes to go.
Sorry. Time for dinner. More later.
Later......... Lovely dinner. My shout. Pretty scrummy if I say so myself.
Where was I. So many of the "Lower" League teams performed brilliantly. Wycombe holding Villa, Pompey drawing at Ipswich, Burnley beating C/ship leaders Boro, Forest beating QPR Peterborought beating Preston And Sheffield Wednesday. The biggest shock of the day though Was Sheff Utd's defeat by struggling Man Utd. Who saw that coming ( probably not the Utd fans...............they applauded ironically when Memphis had the first Utd shot in the 60th minute). Utd scored a penalty in the 3rd minute of injury time.......Convincing !
Today the "underdogs" carried on the good work. Oxford beat Swansea, Yeovil drew at Carlisle. Scunthorpe gave a good account losing 2-0 at Chelsea and lowly Shrewsbury beat Championship Cardiff. Great stuff.
OK Europe.
Eredivisie. Ajax and Eidhoven won by the odd goal but Feyenoord lost at home to NEC
Ligue 1. PSG and Angers both win. Monaco in 3rd draw at home to lowly Ajaccio.
Bundesliga. Still on winter break, hence our friend Marius's visit this weekend.
La Liga. Well I was keeping an eye on the Valencia v Real Madrid game last week and it was 1-1 when I finished my report. It finished 2-2, a very creditable result for the Neville brothers but not for Real coach Rafa Benitez who was duly sacked. Pretty harsh for the number of games he was in charge for and the sacking of Carlo Ancelotti was looked upon as a mistake but the job was given to Zinedine Zidane and he's started with a 5-0 win over Deportivo. There was always going to be a reaction and a Bale hat trick plus 2 from Benzema was the answer. Real hadn't exactly been bad but costly draws and the rare loss too much for the "owners". Barca beat Granada 4 -0 ( when we saw them in December they were pretty bad) with Messi also getting a hat trick. Atletico didn't play so it's Barca on 42 points Atletico 41 (18 games) with Real on 40 and Villareal on 39 (19 Games) Levante, the other team we saw, beat Rayo Vallecano. Bottom and 2nd bottom.
Serie A. Italy resumed on Wednesday and Inter, Napoli, Fiorentina and Juve all win but Roma and Lazio can only draw to lose more ground. BUT this weekend previous leaders Inter are beaten by Sassuolo and Napoli's 5-1 win at poor Frosinone takes them top. Fiorentina lose to Lazio Juve don't play til later and Roma held at home by Milan. At the bottom it's Verona Carpi (who won) and Frosinone.
