While there Southampton progressed in the Fa Cup with a 1-0 away win at Mick McCarthy's Championship form side Ipswich mid week.
On Saturday in the Premiership there was only one home win, for Spurs v Sunderland, and 6 away victories which must be quite rare. Away wins for Liverpool Crystal Palace Stoke Man Utd and Chelsea with Southampton continuing their great return to form ( seven games unbeaten all comps) with a win at Newcastle which I watched in The Malt House in Seaton as the late match plus 3 medicinal pints of lager.
On Sunday West Ham beat Hull 3-0 and probably the shock result of the weekend Arsenal's 2-0 win at Man City. City had many chances but Arsenal looked solid at the back for the first time in ages. Performance of the day went to Palace who came back from 2-0 down to win 3-2 at resurgent Burnley.
Worst result, even more so than Swansea's terrible 5-0 home defeat to Chelsea, was probably Everton's 0-0 draw with West Brom. It was bad because Kevin Mirallas took and missed a penalty when he wouldn't let regular pen expert Baines take it ! ! ! He was soon subbed.
Italy Juve win at a trot. Napoli beat Lazio away and Roma can only draw at Palermo. Juve edge 5 points clear of Roma.
Spain Real Barca Atletico Sevilla Valencia and Villareal all win and that's how they stand. Ronaldo only scored twice but Messi got a hat trick !
France Lyon Marseille PSG St Etienne Monaco and Montpellier all win so no change there.
Holland PSV Ajax and Feyenoord all win.
Germany restart after winter break in two weeks.
