Another week of ups & downs . . . .

Top flight football returned after the international break; England securing two wins (just), and the other home nations all staying in contention to finish second in their qualifying groups, with Wales having a slight edge over Eire in their group.  Wayne Rooney, recently retired form international football, was able to relax at home with friends.

Liverpool follow up a demolition of Arsenal with a 5 goal collapse at rampant Man City with Sadio Mane getting his marching orders after Ederson headed Mane's studs. It was Mane's third sending off in his short Premier League career.  City are now level with United on 10 points after their rivals 2-2 draw at Stoke City.  Mourinho and Hughes appeared not to be the best of mates after the game.

Arsenal recovered this week by comfortably beating point-less Boscombe by 3-0, with Alexis Sanchez getting a mixed welcome from The Emirates crowd when he came on as a sub.

With West Ham securing their first points of the season at home to unbeaten Huddersfield Town this result left both Boscombe and Crystal Palace as the only teams without a point after 4 games. The other two promoted teams won, Brighton's 3-1 victory at The AMEX was their first victory of the season; Newcastle won by a single goal at Swansea.

Palace have also failed to score a goal this season after a 1-0 defeat at Burnley; this poor record resulted in the first casualty of the PL season with the sacking of Frank de Boer (rumours are rife that septuagenarian Roy Hodgson is lined up as the replacement).

Saints continued their dire form in front of goal, failing to score for the 8th time in 9 competitive home games, as they were well beaten by an impressive Watford team under ex-Hull City manager Silva. The poor form that led to Claude Puel's sacking continues under Pellegrino; could he be the second managerial casualty of the season?

Despite their lack of 'home' wins at Wembley, Spurs secured their second away win with a 3-0 trouncing of Everton.

Local non-league side Eastleigh shared the points for the fourth game in a row this time away at struggling Guiseley. The Spitfires had signed Football League veteran Gary McSheffrey in an effort to turn the draws into victories, but clearly it didn't happen for them this time.

In La Liga, Ronaldo-less Real Madrid were held at home to perennial strugglers Levante, and trail Barca and unfancied Real Sociedad by 4 points after 3 games.

In Germany, Bayern were beaten 2-0 at Hoffenheim and the talk of the Bundesliga is ex-Premier League referee Howard Webb's partner, Bibiana Steinhaus becoming the first female to referee in Germany's top division.

In Italy, Juve sit at the top of Serie A after 3 unbeaten games.

With the transfer window done and dusted for now, two of the much publicised 'wantaways' Sanchez and Virgil Van Dijk have now represented the clubs that hold their contracts.  Van Dijk made his first appearance in a Saints shirt in a 4-0 loss at Wallsall's ground where Saints u23s lost to Aston Villa's youngsters.  However, no sign of Coutinho at Liverpool or Costa at Chelsea as yet.

Hi i'm Alan S. Ex-Ordnance Survey UK, ex-BAe Systems KSA, ex-Twinings UK. Currently at Coopervision UK. Actually my continuing illnesses did for me and my contract was ended, so now have retired ( sort of). Been Wilkie Touring since 2005. I Love "live" music and also "writing and playing" my own songs. Enjoy throwing parties. Oh Yeah, Going to Cinema and watching DVD's on PROJECTOR based "Home  Cinema" are essentials. Golf and Jazz and Jogging round things off. Would have been on more Tours but for recurring illness's ( Cellulitus and last 2 1/2 years Hip).

Travelling! Did I mention travelling? Oh, and photography too. I belong to the school of " take a 100 pix and one is bound to be good ( ask exasperated family and friends!).
